Yoga Therapy and Integration

Yoga Therapy and Integration combines and modifies a selection of the available tools of yoga in accordance with the needs of the individual to achieve specific outcomes. Each personal practice is logically planned and prescribed according to the needs of the individual, their attributes and personality, where they are at the time they commence their yoga practice, as well as their longer term goals.

The goal of yoga therapy is Psychic and Psychological Integrationthe illumination of psychic, psychological and emotional blocks through yoga asana that helps each student to become aware of what is being presented in their “here and now” experience of themselves. Over time, openings in the body are reflected in the mind and vice versa, creating an organic and harmonious form of healing.

The common misconception is that yoga is only for the fit and flexible. However, if you can breathe you can practice yoga. The whole spectrum of human conditions can be accommodated by an appropriate and intelligent practice. Even a person with severe physical restrictions can physically, physiologically, and emotionally benefit from yoga.

Yoga Therapy is:

  • A wholistic approach to healing that empowers the individual to manage their own health. Using the practices of yoga, you can prevent, reduce or alleviate structural, physiological, emotional and psychological pain or limitations.
  • Particularly appropriate for many chronic ailments, injuries or misalignments that persist despite conventional medical treatment. Yoga therapy is suitable for everyone regardless of age, fitness, state of health or belief system.
  • Involves a range of mind/body practices, including: classical yoga postures, postural realignments using yoga props, breathing techniques, deep relaxation (visualisation and imagery), and meditation.
  • Taught one-on-one for specific conditions. Everyone is different and not one single approach or practice will be appropriate for all.
  • Removes obstacles by supporting students to take responsibility for their own physical, mental and emotional well-being.
  • Distinctive from almost all other health modalities in that it operates on all aspects of the human condition. One’s ability to cope with the stresses of life is enhanced because we become more aware of how we “do” our life.
